7 Ways to Get More Out of Your Life

We can’t always prevent bad things from happening, and no one is excused from the harsh realities of life. But that doesn’t mean enjoying life every day is an impossible feat. Lots of things happen that are beyond our control, but ultimately we are accountable for our own happiness.

Shit happens sometimes and bad days are inevitable, but enjoying life every day has more to do with your attitude than what is going on around you. Law of attraction works, and there are studies that support it. If you exude positivity, you will attract positivity and simultaneously induce a positive response in others.

If you struggle to find happiness in the day-to-day, know that you are not alone. Many of us are guilty of thinking we’d be happier “if only” certain things were different. However, the truth is that enjoying life every day simply requires a change in perspective and a few tweaks to your current routine.

There is no perfect formula to happiness. Different things make us happy, but there are simple life hacks that all of us can do to be happy on a daily basis.

Here are 7 ways you can start enjoying life every day:

1. Get Enough Sleep

People who get 7 to 9.5 hours of sleep at night tend to wake up happier and feel more refreshed throughout the day. Getting enough sleep is essential to maintain your good health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, an adult’s average night’s sleep in the U.S. is now less than 6 hours per night. If you want to wake up every day feeling rejuvenated and more prepared for the day ahead, start practicing a nighttime routine to help you get to bed earlier and sleep for at least 7 hours.

2. Practice Real Gratitude

Start a routine of jotting down three things you are grateful for each day. You can also keep a gratitude journal. This will help you focus on the good in your life. When you are intentional about what you’re grateful for, you welcome more happiness into your life. Enjoying life every day comes easily when you are full of gratitude.

A number of scientific studies have found that being grateful is effective in reducing negative emotions such as envy and also reduces the risk of depression. It can also improve self-esteem. On top of that, practicing gratitude can also help lower levels of stress hormones and help you get a better night’s sleep.

3. Get Active!

During exercise your body releases endorphins. These chemicals relieve pain and stress. Even if you’re busy, you can squeeze in a few jumping jacks in between conference calls or go on a 20-minute walk during your lunch break. Setting aside a little time to exercise can do wonders for your mood for the entire day.

4. Practice Empathy and Give Back

We usually think about empathy as feeling other people’s pain, but it goes beyond that. Having empathy also allows you to feel happy for other people’s successes. Enjoying life every day is more achievable when you find joy in other people’s happiness. Empathy also helps you improve any and all relationships in your life. Plus, it’s easier to enjoy life when you have positive relationships with others.

You can also find joy in giving back. Doing activities that can make a difference in other people’s lives, like volunteering, can help you find meaning and purpose in your life. In fact, scientists believe that altruistic behavior releases endorphins in the brain, which makes us feel good about ourselves.

5. Invest in Yourself

The more you focus on yourself and the more you accept your whole self, the happier you will be.

Keep a journal. Acquire a new skill. Keep learning. Make time to explore subjects that you are interested in. These are just some examples of how you can build your self-love by spending time becoming the person you’ve been dreaming of. It’s time to make those dreams a reality!

Most of all, be compassionate towards yourself. Enjoying life every day requires taking care of yourself.

6. Schedule Down Time for Yourself

Everybody deserves a break, so take time to relax and reconnect with yourself. In order to enjoy life, you shouldn’t wait to be extra stressed or burned out before taking a break. You should make time to rest on a daily basis.

There are many things you can do to relax. You can take a short nap, meditate, go for a walk, do a favorite hobby or anything else you enjoy doing. The important thing is that you are doing something to reduce your stress levels.

Some may hesitate to set aside time for relaxation because they want to be more productive. However, relaxation is essential for us to be better rested so that when we work we are more productive and better equipped to deal with life’s challenges.

7. Learn to Let Go and Let Be

A key part of enjoying life every day is accepting that we are not going to feel 100% happy all the time. It’s okay to let yourself feel negative emotions, but you should also learn to gradually let go of what is hurting you.

Leave room for mistakes and accept things you can’t control. Self-love means reflecting on your past and acknowledging what happened, but moving forward and learning from it. Focus on what’s important, learn to forgive and remember to laugh at yourself. You shouldn’t let your past hold you back from all the good things you have ahead of you!

This seems like a lot, but take it one step at a time.

Just like life, self-love and self-care are a journey, not a one-stop shop. Even I can’t look at this list of 7 things and do them right away! Give yourself time, find what works for you and watch your life transform from dreams to your reality.
