Beyond Perfection: What My Own Launch Taught Me About Operational Excellence

When I launched The Ops Edge Academy, I honestly thought…

“This might not work for me.”

Even though I help service-based businesses build scalable operations, this was my first time launching a program like this in its current format. And even with all my experience in process improvement, things didn’t go perfectly.

We had tech glitches. A wrong date in the system. A missing Zoom link. Formatting issues. You name it.

But here’s what I want you to take away:

Operational excellence isn’t about getting it right the first time. It’s about building the muscle to recover quickly—and learn faster.

Here are a few reflections you can apply to your own internal launches, initiatives, or campaigns:

💡5 Lessons We Learned (That You Can Use Too):

1. Check your automations—but also check the humans behind them. A single scheduling mistake by an expert threw off our entire email sequence. It was caught in time—but barely. Trust your team, and still build in review gates.

2. The customer journey starts way earlier than you think. Missing info like the event time on the landing page made us lose trust points. First impressions aren’t just visual—they’re functional.

3. Don’t cram quality control into the final hour. Rushed proofing led to overlooked typos and outdated links. Build time for quality into your project plan—not as an afterthought.

4. After the event is still part of the event. We forgot to swap out the registration page with a replay link. Operational flow doesn’t stop at “go live”—it keeps going.

5. Strong teams > flawless systems. The only reason we stayed afloat was because everyone stayed in their lane and moved fast. Clarity beats complexity every time.

🎯Strategy Spotlight

Process visibility isn’t about tracking everything—it’s about showing the right things to the right people.

Here’s how to keep visibility clear across teams:

  • Share your process flow visually, not just in lists.

  • Include timelines with checkpoints—not just due dates.

  • Assign clear ownership at every handoff.

When people see where they fit, they’re more likely to take responsibility—and that’s when real collaboration happens.
